  • US Budokai is fantastic for all ages! All of the instructors are eager to answer questions and accommodate clients' needs. It is conveniently located just off Route 9. The children's classes are a great start and there is a kids' area for parents who need to keep their kids occupied while [they are] taking a class. Rockin' Kickboxin' is a great workout for all fitness levels (and it's affordable). Positive atmosphere with attentive, informative staff. We are so thankful for this place!

  • My Budokai story stretches across the decades. I joined the Karate family when I was eleven years old. I was being bullied in school and my Dad suggested I look into the Martial Arts as a way to defend myself. I made friends, gained confidence in myself and in my abilities. (Then) Sensei Jarem became a kind of a life coach and mentor. I looked up to him as a young man would to someone who pushed me to my limits; and beyond! After I earned the second of two Black Belts I went off to college and then to start a career.
Fast forward thirty years and my wife and I were looking for something for our four year old son to participate in. Regular sports weren’t his thing so we decided to try Karate since I loved it so much as a child. It was not even a question as to where we would bring him; Budokai Karate and, now, Hanshi Jarem! Since my son joined my daughter has also joined. I also went back four years ago and earned my third Black Belt in 2019.
As a parent, I get even more from Budokai than I did when I was a child. I see how much each of my children has grown, gained confidence, and become great young members of society. As an adult who is in Karate, I have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a “student” of the Martial Arts. I have learned this through the teachings of Hanshi Jarem through his actions, the way in which he encourages his students and works with us to better our mind, body and spirit. I owe a debt of gratitude to this man, Renshi, Sensei Michael and all the other Black Belts who have come before me.

Thank you for sharing your Family and your Budokai experience with others!! We are so grateful to have family members like you!!

  • In the years to follow, all members of the McKay family joined Budokai. Our younger son’s self-confidence started to grow from the beginning when he joined the Tiny Tigers program. Both our sons have spent half of their lives training at US Budokai Karate and it has given them a level of self-confidence, discipline and respect that carries over into all areas of their lives. For us as parents, it is a joy to share our karate training with our children. Training at US Budokai is a great way to get in shape and learn about yourself in the process. The workouts have made us all healthier as well as physically and mentally stronger. We each have grown in our own way throughout our years of training and we can’t imagine not having US Budokai Karate in our lives.

  • I started karate when I was in 7th grade and I got my black belt in 5 years. I’ve learned a lot from karate and it has made me more confident and shown me what I am capable of. I have met some of my closest friends through karate and I have gotten closer with my family. My dad, brother, and I are all black belts and my mom takes kickboxing classes so it’s nice to have something we can all talk about and help each other with. I would recommend it to anyone.

Thank you for sharing your Budokai experience with everyone! It's been a privilege to have you and your entire family as part of ours!

  • Great for senior citizens. Improves strength, balance and flexibility. Plus you can learn to not be a victim just because you are old.

Thank you for being part of our Golden Lions and proving that progress happens at every age!

  • Over my entire life, I have had the good fortune to successfully participate in many sporting and physical ventures. With that said, nothing could prepare me for the challenge of the martial arts. U.S. Budokai Karate Association has been offering me challenge and inspiration for over ten years. The instructors and students in the organization always prove their impressive character in and out of the dojo. I continually recommend U.S. Budokai to my friends and acquaintances who are searching for better physical fitness, skills for self-defense or a way to inner peace. The path is not always easy but it is certainly worth it!

  • U.S. Budokai provides a friendly, supportive, nurturing environment to train in. It is a real pleasure to work with classmates and staff who share the same values, respect and overall commitment to themselves and the martial arts. I couldn't imagine my life without the dojo.

  • We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to you both, for taking our son under your tutelage. He has really developed a love for karate and we have seen his attitude improve within all areas: home, school and socially. We have seen an increase in respect towards us and toward others. His confidence and self-respect have improved as a result of your training. For a child on the autism spectrum, your school offers a wonderful experience in providing a chance to grow and develop both physically and mentally. You have provided outstanding leadership, discipline and self-control role modeling, in a thoughtful and respectful way and we appreciate all your efforts to reach each student to help them to be their best.

  • As a 16 year old black belt student, I have been fortunate enough to grow up in this environment since I was 6 years old. What I thought would be just a twice a week martial arts training has become the foundation to my moral compass and outlook on life. One of the most powerful aspects of this school’s teachings that has always stuck by me, is that martial arts is not about learning how to fight, but learning how not to fight. The art is to turn your body into a deadly weapon with the hopes to never use it, learning just as much how to avoid a physical fight as what to do when one can’t be avoided. Self discipline is prioritized over being able to hit hard, which carries on into all aspects of life. From your first day of stepping on the mat you will be taught our core principles of honor, dignity, pride, and respect. The person I have become just by asking myself “what would Hanshi do?” when faced with challenges throughout each day has truly benefited me more than any other program I have been involved in. While other martial arts schools may also teach you to defend yourself, the benefits of joining the US Budokai Karate family are in my eyes, priceless. Whether you’re looking for a good workout, the ability to defend yourself, or a place to unwind at the end of each day, your appreciation of life and the way you go about it will surely be effected after hearing Hanshi speak at the end of class even just once. The staff continues to be the most inviting, honorable, wise, and loving group of people I have ever had the pleasure to be in the same room as, who are bound to better the lives of every new face that comes through the door. I cannot express enough how highly I suggest enrolling your children at any age or joining the school yourself. Whether your 8 years old or 80 years old there is a place for you waiting with open arms. After all, “We’re on a Quest to Be Our Best!”

Osu Matt! You are a walking billboard of what our program is all about and a shining example of the good in young people today. Thank you for taking the time to write this tremendous review of your experience here at USBKA!

  • As parents, we have more confidence that our children are building their skills to better prepare them for life’s challenges. Their growth and personal development have been augmented by the many terrific role models and principles and ideals that they have been exposed to over the years at U.S. Budokai Karate. They have definitely achieved their goals along the way and look forward to more opportunities to continue growing in their knowledge of karate and the respect and value that it stands for.

  • I stared Karate at Budokai when I was four years old as a Tiny Tiger. It took me seven years to earn my Black Belt. I’ve made a lot of friends through Karate. Other members of my family take Karate and I like talking to them about the fun stuff we do in class and different things we have learned. I love all of the instructors and how they motivate me to be my best, focus and have self control!

Osu Aidan thank you for this great review and for being a big part of our Jr Black Belt Program!

  • I found US Budokai Karate of Clifton Park when my previous dojo closed. I came in and did my two introductory classes with Renshi Sue and I was hooked. When you meet the US Budokai family, they embrace you and that feeling of belonging is a powerful motivator to keep going and keep progressing, especially as you are challenged on your road to black belt. I have been part of this organization for several years now and it was the best choice for me, both for my martial arts journey and for my personal growth and development. I have improved my fitness, I have lost weight, and I am healthier than I have been in years. Karate is not easy, but you get support here that helps you stay motivated-when you're motivated, you attend class consistently, and when you do that, your karate improves. I feel valued as a student here and I'm happy with the high quality instruction I have received at all belt levels. Come check us out, see for yourself why this dojo is so awesome. Osu!
