  • OSU! Congratulations to Kyoshi Susan Warzek!!! Such a well-deserved honor and recognition to someone who epitomizes what a martial artist truly is! So pleased and proud for her and for USBKA of Clifton Park. Looking forward to when I can get back in the dojo, until then please keep this great newsletter coming!

Thank you so much for all your years of support!

  • If I was asked to grade US Budokai Karate of Clifton Park on a scale of 1 to 10, it easily grades a 10. My children participate in the junior and teen levels, one of whom is a special needs child. I cannot adequately express my appreciation to Kyoshi, Shihan Sue and all those involved in the teaching of this great sport. Tough love, humor and tremendous attention to assure their success. All this results in kids that gain skills at their different levels; and, skills that improve their focus, social skills and discipline. A great dojo and great people.

  • My Budokai story stretches across the decades. I joined the Karate family when I was eleven years old. I was being bullied in school and my Dad suggested I look into the Martial Arts as a way to defend myself. I made friends, gained confidence in myself and in my abilities. (Then) Sensei Jarem became a kind of a life coach and mentor. I looked up to him as a young man would to someone who pushed me to my limits; and beyond! After I earned the second of two Black Belts I went off to college and then to start a career.
Fast forward thirty years and my wife and I were looking for something for our four year old son to participate in. Regular sports weren’t his thing so we decided to try Karate since I loved it so much as a child. It was not even a question as to where we would bring him; Budokai Karate and, now, Hanshi Jarem! Since my son joined my daughter has also joined. I also went back four years ago and earned my third Black Belt in 2019.
As a parent, I get even more from Budokai than I did when I was a child. I see how much each of my children has grown, gained confidence, and become great young members of society. As an adult who is in Karate, I have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a “student” of the Martial Arts. I have learned this through the teachings of Hanshi Jarem through his actions, the way in which he encourages his students and works with us to better our mind, body and spirit. I owe a debt of gratitude to this man, Renshi, Sensei Michael and all the other Black Belts who have come before me.

Thank you for sharing your Family and your Budokai experience with others!! We are so grateful to have family members like you!!

  • As a 16 year old black belt student, I have been fortunate enough to grow up in this environment since I was 6 years old. What I thought would be just a twice a week martial arts training has become the foundation to my moral compass and outlook on life. One of the most powerful aspects of this school’s teachings that has always stuck by me, is that martial arts is not about learning how to fight, but learning how not to fight. The art is to turn your body into a deadly weapon with the hopes to never use it, learning just as much how to avoid a physical fight as what to do when one can’t be avoided. Self discipline is prioritized over being able to hit hard, which carries on into all aspects of life. From your first day of stepping on the mat you will be taught our core principles of honor, dignity, pride, and respect. The person I have become just by asking myself “what would Hanshi do?” when faced with challenges throughout each day has truly benefited me more than any other program I have been involved in. While other martial arts schools may also teach you to defend yourself, the benefits of joining the US Budokai Karate family are in my eyes, priceless. Whether you’re looking for a good workout, the ability to defend yourself, or a place to unwind at the end of each day, your appreciation of life and the way you go about it will surely be effected after hearing Hanshi speak at the end of class even just once. The staff continues to be the most inviting, honorable, wise, and loving group of people I have ever had the pleasure to be in the same room as, who are bound to better the lives of every new face that comes through the door. I cannot express enough how highly I suggest enrolling your children at any age or joining the school yourself. Whether your 8 years old or 80 years old there is a place for you waiting with open arms. After all, “We’re on a Quest to Be Our Best!”

Osu Matt! You are a walking billboard of what our program is all about and a shining example of the good in young people today. Thank you for taking the time to write this tremendous review of your experience here at USBKA!

  • At 70 may not be the best time to start karate but I did it to improve my flexibility and balance. I found that not only does it do that but I liked it. I am amazed at how much I have learned and humbled by how much there is to learn. A great program even for seniors

Thank you for being a part of our Golden Lions Karate! The more you do, the more you CAN DO!! Osu!

  • US Budokai Karate of Clifton Park is amazing! Every instructor is kind, compassionate, considerate, understanding,
helpful and supportive in every way.
My son spent 5+ years at another martial arts school and was looking for a new challenge.
This school was exactly what he needed and helped to bring his spark back! He is so excited to go to each and every class and throughly enjoys everything about US Budokai Karate.

  • US Budokai is fantastic for all ages! All of the instructors are eager to answer questions and accommodate clients' needs. It is conveniently located just off Route 9. The children's classes are a great start and there is a kids' area for parents who need to keep their kids occupied while [they are] taking a class. Rockin' Kickboxin' is a great workout for all fitness levels (and it's affordable). Positive atmosphere with attentive, informative staff. We are so thankful for this place!

  • We looked at MANY different potential martial arts programs for our child. From the first meeting with Renshi Sue it was clear this place was different. You don't want the programs SO easy that they don't learn the actual art or develop the discipline, not SO hard they lose interest. This program hits the perfect balance. Hanshi Jarem Is TOUGH on them yet also tender and funny. Knows every kid. They seek his praise and follow his guidance. This has been terrific for our son, who is a sensory seeker, and while he's only been here since very end of April, I see improvement like I've never seen in anything else.   Every other dojo I've seen gives rank so they can keep parents $$$; not so here. Child's development first, period. There was this one time where it was was probably the first time this child ever heard no, and while your heart breaks a little with their tears (it was handled with dignity in private, but you could tell on his face later), you also know that it's probably one of the best things to happen to him. False self esteem (without the work) is actually highly damaging to kids, leading to depression and anxiety as young adults. Letting kids take some lumps is hard. Lots of dojos talk about character, but don't actually follow through. Here, they do. VERY compassionately, but firm. Guess who does the work now and has a new spring in his step? It's great to see.

  • Great for senior citizens. Improves strength, balance and flexibility. Plus you can learn to not be a victim just because you are old.

Thank you for being part of our Golden Lions and proving that progress happens at every age!

  • I Love US budokai Karate! Every class is a challenge for the body and mind. This, plus the unparalleled instruction make US Budokai Karate of Clifton Park an awesome place to train. Hanshi Jarem, Renshi Sue and Sensei Mike are the best!
    Jim Connolly.

Thanks for the review and your tremendous support and dedication to our program!

  • My son has been a student for three years! He attended several other martial arts schools and US Budokai Karate is hands down the best karate and martial arts school in the area. It’s a family run business with exceptional teachers and leaders. Their classes are well run with plenty of instructors on the floor. If your considering getting your child into martial arts for whatever reason you will not be disappointed when you choose US Budokai!

  • US Budokai Karate of Clifton Park is the best! I literally cannot say enough good things about the instructors. They are kind, compassionate, considerate, understanding, helpful and supportive in every way. Finding this school was the blessing we needed and helped to bring a bit of normalcy in this crazy world to my child's life! We do not mind the expense (fairly priced) because what they bring to our child's life is worth every penny spent.

Thank you for investing in your child's future with US Budokai Karate! Developing kids into leaders!
