HDPR – The Budokai Way!

The Budokai Way develops not only the martial artist’s physical skills but a strong character defined by honor, dignity, pride, and respect (HDPR!)

Class discussion will be had in all Junior level classes over the next week to talk about what exactly these traits mean.

Honor – having a set of values and sticking to them.  Do we have honor when we lie? No! Honor is learning how to stand up for ourselves and the things we believe in.

Dignity – A look or way of behaving that says you carry yourself with seriousness & self-control.  Does the class clown have dignity? No! Someone with dignity also takes responsibility for themselves.

Pride – Is defined as a high opinion of one’s worth and importance; a sense of satisfaction that comes from doing your best.  Do people that have pride show courage? Yes! Pride is not arrogance.  People with pride in the dojo show up to train with high spirit in every class! KIA!

Respect – To show regard and consideration for others.  OSU! Also, a feeling or understanding that something is important and should be treated properly.  Treat your lessons in the dojo with respect, a love of learning and your wisdom will grow!

Students have been tasked with reflecting on their own role models or someone that they view as showing HDPR and complete an HDPR Heroes Handout!
All students who turn in an HDPR Handout by June 5th will receive a Stewart’s Ice Cream Cone!!
