US Budokai Karate congratulates Keegan Skinner on receiving his Eagle Scout award on Sunday February 11, 2018.  Keegan Skinner started his martial arts career at US Budokai simultaneously with scouting at the age of 6 and has excelled at both as he does in all his endeavors.  Keegan earned his second degree black belt at US Budokai in 2015 and his first degree black belt in weapons in 2014.  He adds the award of Eagle Scout to this already impressive list of achievements.

Only about 2% of all scouts ever achieve the level of Eagle Scout and Keegan follows in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and uncles in achieving this impressive level of scouting.  To advance, a Boy Scout must pass specific tests and merit badges. Be active in his troop for a period of at least six months after achieving the rank of Life Scout. In addition a scout must also demonstrate that you live by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law in daily life.

The Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

This oath closely mirrors the intent of US Budokai’s Student Creed:  I will develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that could reduce my mental growth or physical health, I will develop self-discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others.  I will use common sense before self-defense and never be abusive or offensive.  This is a black belt school.  We are dedicated.  We are motivated.  We are on a quest to be our best!

Few endeavors in this day and age instill such necessary character traits on our youth.

Skinner spent years collecting bottles, planning and executing a trail system project in Clifton Park which connects Clifton Gardens Park with Moe Road.  His Eagle Scout project will remain a lasting legacy for generations to come and greatly enhances the community.  We are honored to have a role model like Keegan here at US Budokai and once again congratulate him on this tremendous achievement.  Osu!
