GENERAL DOJO REGULATIONS
TO ALL KARATE-KA:
Obey all dojo rules.
Be punctual about scheduled practice and meetings.
Wear traditional Karate gi properly and neatly at all
times.
Keep the Karate gi clean and in good repair at all
times.
Keep your body clean, finger and toe nails trimmed
short.
Do not wear rings, bracelets, neck chains, or any
jewelry.
Do not chew gum or have candy or food in your mouth
while in the dojo.
Observe all traditions in the dojo:
Bowing to be performed upon entering and leaving the
floor. (Bowing has not a religious connotation. In Japan, people bow to each
other as a greeting and a sign of mutual respect, much in the same way we, in
America, shake hands.)
Bowing to be performed towards the instructors upon
commencement of formal class.
Kyu will form one line on "lower side" or left of
dojo, with Senior Kyu placed in the "upper place" (on the right).
Bowing to be performed between Karate-ka prior to
mutual exercise and upon completion of that exercise; Senior Karate-ka will
stand or kneel on the "upper side" of the dojo.
Exercise sincerely entering in the spirit of Karate
by exercising in accordance with Karate principles and not relying solely on
strength.
Lower rank must at all times seek to exercise with
higher ranks.
Remain quiet and attentive in the dojo, even though
not exercising, sitting, or kneeling on the proper side of the floor.
Do not idly sit or lie on the floor in a position
that might interfere with others exercising, but take the traditional positions.
Always be courteous in demeanor and helpful to
juniors and each other.
Always be earnest and serious, especially in contest.
The spirit of fair play, to fight fair and square, to be obedient to the
Referee's judgment, and to attach more importance to the attitude of the match
than the results, is the greatest importance.
Contribute to keeping the dojo in repair and in clean
condition and other general maintenance.
Clean dojo floor
after each class.
